He was 30 years old when he applied to North Star Lodge No. 41 in what was then called Lethbridge, N.W.T.  (This was back when the Grand Lodge of Manitoba held jurisdiction over what is now called Saskatchewan , Alberta, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon.) 
He was initiated October 14, 1895, 
passed 13 January 1896 and 
raised 14 September 1896

Bro. Rae, Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge Manitoba says John R would have become
a member of Lethbridge Lodge under the Grand Lodge of Alberta when it was formed in 1905.
